Behind the Scenes: The Making of Balance Dancewear

The Art of Dancewear

When you step into the studio, every move you make is a reflection of your dedication, skill, and passion. But what if your dancewear could enhance that experience—supporting every leap, turn, and stretch with precision? That’s exactly what Balance by Cherevychko is designed to do.

For Denys Cherevychko, dancewear has always been a crucial part of his performance. As a professional dancer who has experienced the frustrations of ill-fitting, uncomfortable, and uninspired dancewear, Denys set out to create something better. Balance by Cherevychko isn’t just another dancewear line—it’s a collection designed by a dancer, for dancers, with every detail carefully crafted to solve the problems we’ve all faced.

The Inspiration: Solving Real Problems for Dancers

Denys’s journey to creating Balance by Cherevychko began long before he became a principal dancer. As a child in Ukraine, Denys struggled to find appropriate dancewear. Options were limited, and he often had to make do with whatever was available—layering women’s tights to create the look he needed or having his mother craft makeshift dance belts. As an adult in Austria, he found that the struggle remained: dance shops offered limited, uninspired options for male dancers, most of which were uncomfortable and ill-suited for the demands of professional ballet.

Denys knew that dancers deserved better. That’s why he set out to create Balance by Cherevychko—a dancewear line that fills the gaps in the market and solves the problems that have plagued dancers for years. From the beginning, Balance by Cherevychko was designed to address issues like uncomfortable seams, unsupportive waistbands, and materials that don’t breathe or stretch the way they should.

The Design Process: From Concept to Creation

Denys’s approach to design starts with observation. He watches what he and other dancers wear, paying close attention to the small adjustments they make throughout rehearsals and performances. Why does one pair of tights stay in place while another needs constant adjustment? What makes one shirt more comfortable to dance in than another? These observations are the seeds of new ideas.

Once Denys identifies a problem, he collaborates with his tailor to find the perfect solution. Every design element is carefully considered to solve real dancer problems—from tights that stay in place to a t-shirt that doesn’t ride up during port de bras. Denys’s hands-on approach and collaboration with his tailor ensure that each piece is not just functional, but also incredibly comfortable.

Before any piece goes into production, Denys rigorously tests it himself, wearing it in class and during performances. He also gathers feedback from a select group of ambassadors—professional dancers who share their insights to help refine each design. The result? Dancewear that not only meets but exceeds the needs of dancers.

The Material: A Focus on Feel and Function

Choosing the right material is just as important as the design itself. Denys partners with a production factory specialized in stretch fabrics for activewear. Together, they’ve spent countless hours testing different blends to find the perfect fabric for Balance by Cherevychko.

The materials chosen for Balance dancewear are eco-friendly, made from recycled polyester and organic cotton. These fabrics aren’t just good for the planet—they’re also incredibly comfortable, breathable, and durable. Denys’s focus on finding the perfect fabric ensures that every piece feels like a second skin, offering the breathability, stretch, and durability that dancers need to perform at their best. It’s all about giving you the confidence to focus on your art, not on your outfit.

The Production Process: Crafting Perfection

Once the designs are finalized and the materials are selected, production begins. All Balance by Cherevychko dancewear is produced in Riga, Latvia, under European standards. This means that the production facilities operate with safe working conditions, fair wages, and high-quality production—a crucial aspect of the brand’s commitment to quality and responsibility.

The construction of each piece is a meticulous process. For example, designing the perfect waistband was a challenge that took several rounds of back-and-forth between Denys, the tailor, and the factory. The goal was to create an elastic that offers the ideal balance between support and comfort, and stays flat without twisting. The final product is a waistband that’s comfortable, durable, and uniquely suited to the needs of dancers. After multiple iterations, we crafted a waistband that offers the ideal balance between support and comfort—so you can focus on your performance, not adjusting your tights.

Denys’s commitment to perfection extends to every detail of production. He personally oversees the process, working closely with the factory to ensure that every piece meets his exacting standards. It’s this attention to detail that sets Balance by Cherevychko apart from other dancewear brands.

Quality Control: Ensuring Perfection in Every Piece

At Balance by Cherevychko, quality control isn’t just a step in the production process—it’s a commitment to excellence. The factory implements the highest levels of quality control to ensure that every piece is produced to specification. But Denys doesn’t just rely on the factory’s expertise—he’s personally involved in the final approval process.

Before production begins on any new piece, Denys and the factory team get on a video call to visually inspect and approve every element. This attention to detail ensures that there are no surprises when the finished products arrive. Denys’s hands-on approach means that every piece of Balance by Cherevychko dancewear is crafted to perfection, so when you wear it, you can trust that it will perform as beautifully as you do.

Bringing it All Together: The Balance Difference

Creating Balance by Cherevychko dancewear is more than just making clothing—it’s about making dancers feel their best. From the initial design to the final product, every step of the process is guided by Denys’s vision of what dancewear should be. It’s not about flashy designs or trendy patterns—it’s about creating pieces that support dancers in their craft, helping them perform at their highest level.

Every dancer who tries Balance by Cherevychko dancewear says the same thing: “I feel like a professional dancer.” And that’s exactly how Denys wants you to feel.
